Located on what was called the FBI corner in the 1940’s between the Irish House and the Fletcher House, The Bass House was designed for Dr. Shailer Bass, a chemist with the Dow Chemical Company, by Alden B. Dow FAIA in 1941 and completed in 1942. This amazing home is one not to miss! It’s unique 2-story structure is cut into the hillside allowing each level to be “ground level” with an asymmetrical gable roof and stucco walls. Enjoy the home’s picturesque landscaping with water feature as you stroll up the patio under the deep trellis to the home’s sunroom entrance. As you tour, take time to embrace the Asianinspired décor from their worldly travels, their beautiful display of colored glass, and the detailed craftsmanship of the hand-made quilts and wood furniture throughout made by the owners. The main floor features a large galley kitchen, dining room, playroom with fireplace and family room. Upstairs, enjoy the abundance of light and natural surroundings from the living room with fireplace and stop to see the picture of Shailer Bass. Also upstairs are 4 bedrooms, a unique open-air office, and original 1950s hall bath as well as the many wonderful holiday decorations.

Come take a stroll through Midland’s beautiful “Beamer Residence” designed by Carl G. Schulwitz AIA in 1960 and built by Nurmi Builders. From the moment you enter, the home’s original slate tile flooring welcomes you, complemented by an entry cabinet built to store card tables for lively card nights. Interior brick walls, a hallmark of the era, add both texture and warmth to the spaces. Continue through the updated modern kitchen made to mirror the original aesthetics and enjoy the holiday décor on the original buffet while soaking in the natural light and views of the beautiful rolling landscape that extends seamlessly into Valley Park. In the living room, tall windows, a grand fireplace, and a warm wood ceiling create a serene gathering place cherished by the current owners. Personal touches to admire include a custom Detroit painting by Steven Magstadt honoring Tina’s family roots as well as one of three works by noted artist Michelle Courier displayed throughout the home. The main floor also features 2 bedrooms, an original peach-tiled shared bath, and a primary suite with recent addition by Roy Woods adding an updated stylish bath and cozy sitting room with private patio. A striking stairway window draws you to the lower level, where a walk-out family room with cinderblock fireplace opens to a screened porch. Here is your opportunity to tour the meticulously maintained 7600 square foot Pardee Residence, owned by the Rollin M. Gerstacker Foundation, brilliantly constructed with Alden B. Dow’s iconic unit blocks. Designed by Alden B. Dow in 1936 and completed in 1937, the current home of the offices for the Allen, Gerstacker, Pardee, and Strosacker Foundations was originally James T. and Elsa U. Pardee’s 2-bedroom summer home. As you walk up the entry, take note and learn about the dual purpose of the geometric pattern and glass block windows. Enjoy the spirit of the holiday in the living room with unique dropped floor along the front expansive windows overlooking Midland’s Currie Bridge and the Tittabawassee River uniting the exterior and interior. The living room includes the original dining table and chairs and exquisite built-in couch. The upper level features the originally designed sunroom, sitting area, primary dressing room, bedrooms, and baths now used as offices, with park views. A unique spiral staircase was added to the upper level in 1953 along with 2 additional bedrooms and an additional bath. The game room and dining room are showcased on the lower level.
