Welcome to the 40th Zonta Homewalk!
New this year - In Person and Virtual Tours!
In Person Tours December 4th and 5th, 1 - 5 p.m.
Virtual Tours December 4th - 31st

The 40th Homewalk celebration includes five spectacular area homes including one that was featured in the very first tour. The 2021 event has the flexibility of in-person and virtual tours so that everyone can participate. Zonta is partnering with Tridge Media Productions for the home videos which will include home information and history that may not be available during the in-person tours. The virtual tours will be great as a standalone view as well as a supplement for those who visit the homes.

The very popular Holiday Auction will return this year as part of Homewalk weekend. The auction will open in late November and close on December 5th. Many items will be available for viewing at the rest stop of the tour at Primrose Midland.

As a result of Homewalk, $265,000 has been awarded to women throughout the community, of all ages, to pursue and finish their education. To learn more about Zonta-funded scholarships visit the www.midlandfoundation.org and look for Zonta Club of Midland funded scholarships.

Zonta members volunteer their time to a number of local initiatives, and as a club, have donated more than $232,000 to support programs and projects that enhance the status of women and their families in the surrounding communities.

Tickets may be purchased from any Zonta Club of Midland  member or online for $20 each an will be available at the door on December 4th and 5th for $25.

40th Anniversary Homes

4000 Orchard Drive – The Ashmun Home 1964
Folded into the wooded wonderland of Orchard Drive, the Heber Ashmun House is a Mid-Century Modern masterwork by one of Midland’s premier architects, Jackson B. Hallett. A pallet of exceptional building materials; Onaway Stone, Philippine Mahogany, Vertical Grain Fir, and Redwood, highlight the remarkable built-in furniture, detailing and craftmanship throughout the home. The living room, raised a few steps above the main level, anchors the house and is flanked by a flagstoned gallery connecting north and south wings. It’s composition of materials, stone fireplace and vaulted ceiling set stage of beauty and design throughout. The north wing features three bedrooms including a master bedroom with adjoining dressing room and bath. Built-in furniture and large-scale windows create function and beauty in every space. At the south wing, the kitchen is adjacent to both informal and formal dining areas as well as a screened porch for your immersion into the natural surroundings.

1227 W. Sugnet – The MacCallum Home
Presented by: Alden B. Dow Home & Studio
The MacCallum home is a showcase of Alden B. Dow’s mastery of design, privacy and use of space. A sense of warmth and security is achieved throughout although you are never without a connection to the natural surroundings. The compression of the entry is at once transitioned into the light-filled and angled ceiling of main living space. Exquisitely designed and crafted floor-to-ceiling windows detailed with square red glass at the top, bathe the space in warm, dynamic light. Louisiana Red Cypress detailing cohesively blends spaces together and adds richness throughout. Early use of glass block adds to the natural lighting of spaces while retaining privacy. A staircase leading up to the master suite is deceptively woven into the central fireplace and hearth area complete with beautifully built-in shelving. The suite, perched atop the bedroom wing, takes full advantage of the two-story screen porch that is also accessible on the main level.

4200 Berkshire Court – The Castle Home 1956
Upon return to his native Midland from dual job transfers, a love for Mid-Century Modern led this homeowner to purchase a second prime example. Designed by architect Glenn (Red) Beach, A.I.A., this three-bedroom, bi-level block home is private from the street, with repeating bands of light-catching windows placed near the roofline. Yet, venturing in, you are immersed in nature by windows that stretch, uninterrupted, across both levels of the park-facing rear of the house. Period-perfect colors and comfortable furnishings create a warm and welcoming environment, with many of Bill’s recent ‘finds’ coming from the Midland Furniture Garage, whose added touches of holiday décor will delight you. A vintage feeling is enhanced by artwork, fabrics and geometric patterns created by the building materials. Designed for entertaining with one space flowing into the next, this home is an oasis away from the world, happy with light and hospitality.

2385 N. Old Pine Trail
It Takes A Village! This 2800 sq. ft. rustic contemporary-style home in the perfect rural setting of Woodland Estates, was built in 1980 by the partnership of Russell and Phillips. Its two-story Great Room, with soaring 10 ft. windows, centers around a Tennessee Quarry Stone fireplace --- the perfect backdrop for the family’s remarkable Department 56 Dickens’ Village display. Lovingly collected since 1984 when John surprised Kay with the very first building, today you’ll view some 200 buildings (including all but 2 structures manufactured from 1984-2000), 400 figurines and accessories, and over 1000 trees and bushes. It’s a breathtaking sight (and don’t miss the Village Train choo-chooing in and out of its tunnel…a child’s delight!) The remainder of this gracious home is equally enchanting, holiday-perfect with a unique collection of snowmen displayed in the airy (white-washed, grey/green granite counter-topped) kitchen.
